Nollywood Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ Reportedly Dies After Cancer Battle

Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has reportedly died after battling stage-four cancer.

His daughter, Kira Hassan, confirmed the heartbreaking news during an emotional Instagram Live session on Sunday. Fighting back tears, she said, “My daddy is dead. I can’t believe it.”

The news was also announced by Emiralty Africa, which expressed sadness over the reported death of the veteran filmmaker.

Ogogo’s reported passing came just hours after his daughter spoke publicly about the difficulties surrounding his illness. During a TikTok Live session on Saturday, Kira alleged that some individuals were attempting to take advantage of the family’s situation by making financial demands while claiming to offer assistance with her father’s treatment.

She said some people had approached the family with requests involving large sums of money, including ₦800,000, ₦5 million, $11,000 and $18,000.

According to Kira, the family’s priority was simply to ensure that Ogogo received the appropriate medical treatment, adding that they were not wealthy enough to meet all the financial demands allegedly being made.

The situation also appeared to have taken a serious emotional toll on Kira herself. During the emotional broadcast, she said she needed to check her blood pressure because she was not feeling well.

Ogogo’s illness reportedly affected the entire family deeply, including his brother, whom Kira affectionately referred to as her “big daddy.”

She explained that the family regularly communicated through a group chat about the actor’s health. In one of the conversations, she reportedly saw a message indicating that her uncle had asked whether Taiwo was going to die.

Kira described the relationship between her father and his brother as extremely close, saying that the pain of Ogogo’s illness had been difficult for everyone in the family.

She also expressed concern about her uncle’s emotional state, saying she believed he was struggling to cope with the situation.

‘I Don’t Know How I Will See the World Again’

Before the reported death, Kira had revealed that she had taken a break from social media because seeing pictures and videos of her father during his cancer battle had become increasingly painful.

Speaking about the possibility of losing her father, she admitted that she could not imagine what life would be like without him.

She said she did not know how she would feel or how she would see the world again if anything happened to her father, while emphasizing that she was not seeking sympathy.

Kira explained that she initially went online simply to calm herself down, but her emotions eventually overwhelmed her because of the strong bond she shared with her father.

Describing Ogogo as a loving father who always wanted the best for everyone around him, she said his greatest concern was seeing the people he loved happy and doing well.

The reported death of Taiwo Hassan has sparked an outpouring of sadness among fans and colleagues across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with many mourning the veteran actor’s contribution to Nollywood.
